| Warrior Spirit The warrior is a William Wallace, who sacrifices home, comfort, and ultimately his life for his belief that freedom is worth all of these things. The warrior is a 23-year-old Army Specialist familiar with weapons since childhood, but who must now wrap his mind around the fact that he has had to take a human life within 45 days of being deployed to Iraq. More importantly, the warrior is not necessarily an individual who clamors for war. The warrior is the one who is skilled at arms; who has the capacity to discern strategies and develop tactics; who possesses the dynamism not just to lead, but to inspire peers and subordinates alike to persevere in the face of daunting opposition. The warrior spirit is conviction and tenacity. It is loyalty, duty, respect, honor, integrity, and personal courage. It is service to oneself and to one another, carried out selflessly. It is endurance beyond fear and even pain; it is strength beyond endurance. It is the thing that demands of one that they go on living when they have little remaining hope of thriving; that they make just one more push in the drive to take the hill. The warrior spirit is the very reason—perhaps the only reason—some of us are able to survive at all. |
